The various stages of thermoforming
Heating
Is it essential to heat the plastic sheet or coil in a programmed and uniform way, to obtain the best results and minimise the risk of unwanted deformations or breakages.
Pre-stretching
When the desired temperature is reached (“plastic” state of the material), the sheet is pulled and stretched to reach the desired thickness and prepare it for forming.
Vacuum
The material undergoes a vacuum process, during which the air is extracted using an industrial pump. In this way, the plastic takes the desired form, without the risk of blisters or malformations.
Cooling
After controlling that the plastic has adhered correctly to the mould, the plastic is cooled. Extraction follows the cooling, with the release of the profile from the mould.
Trimming
The excess material is eliminated and any details such as holes, cuts and grooves are added using 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machines: this process guarantees smooth and perfect edges, removing imperfections and sharp material.
ADDITIONAL OPERATIONS
After completing the trimming and the incision of cuts and holes, other processings are possible such as polyurethane foaming, assembly or reinforcement with rivets or other metal or plastic components.
Deep draw thermoforming: minimum thickness, maximum efficiency
Deep draw thermoforming, our flagship service, consists in deforming plastic, available in sheets or coils, under a vacuum, in a similar way to normal modelling; heating, by means of hot air or infrared rays, makes the plastic malleable and adapts it perfectly to the mould that we make to measure based on the client’s needs.
This specialised service, offered by very few companies, but one of which is Virdis Srl, is characterised by the possibility of reaching dimensions and thicknesses of less than 1mm, helping you for specific uses where a minimum overall size is required without however renouncing the solidity and functionality of a top quality plastic material.
